DepED to public: Stop spreading unverified news, messages through social media

Following the bomb threat that disrupted classes in Taguig schools, the Department of Education (DepED) on Monday, Nov. 7, urged the public not to spread news or messages on social media.

“We appeal to everyone to stop spreading unverified news and messages through social media that may cause undue fear and panic to the public,” the DepED-National Capital Region (NCR) Division of Taguig City and Pateros said in a statement regarding the bomb threat at Signal Village National High School.

The attention of DepED was called after a bomb threat was posted on Facebook by an apparent dummy account early today.

The threat, DepED said, “caused fear and panic” to school personnel, students and parents.

Given this, classes were declared suspended in two schools: EM’s Signal Village Elementary School and Signal Village National High School.

Upon learning of the incident, DepED NCR immediately coordinated with the Division Office of Taguig City and Pateros.

It was informed that the Philippine National Police - Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team together with the Taguig City Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) have already conducted a thorough search within the vicinity of the schools.

Since both schools were declared “safe and bomb-free,” classes are scheduled to resume on Nov. 8.

DepED said it will continue to coordinate with local authorities to “find out and penalize” the perpetrator/s of this bomb threat.

School personnel, students, and parents were also advised to “remain calm and follow school security protocols” at all times.

Moreover, DepED reminded everybody to be “vigilant and immediately report any untoward incident to authorities.”
