The staff of Senator Juan Edgardo ‘’Sonny’’ Angara have distributed food packs and other relief goods to victims of severe tropical storm (STS) ‘’Paeng’’ in the provinces of Zamboanga, Cotabato, Maguindanao in Mindanao; and Aklan and Capiz in the Visayas.
Angara said he coordinated with the mayors in these provinces to determine what kind of help his office could give.
He said the destruction in these areas was widespread, and that residents now need immediate help.
“Ang dasal natin ay maagang makabangon ang mga lalawigan at bayan na sinalanta ng Bagyong Paeng at mabalik sa normal ang buhay ng mga apektadong pamilya (Our prayers are for the early recovery of these provinces and the affected families’ return to normalcy) Sa tuwing may sakuna ay dapat magtulungan tayong lahat (We need to help one another during calamities),’’ Angara added.
The staff of Angara also distributed more than 2,000 food packs and bottled water in Sta. Maria, Pasonanca, and Tamaga in Zamboanga city.
Zamboanga City Mayor John Dalipe helped in the distribution of relief goods to affected families who are mostly in evacuation centers because of the destruction or damage to their houses.
In Capiz, the staff of Angara distributed 1,000 relief packs and gallons of potable water in the town of Sigma.
Sigma Mayor Dante Eslabon thanked Angara, saying Angara is the first to help his town.
Also, more than 2,000 food packs were distributed in the barangays of Dinaig proper, Awang and Kusiong in the town of Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao.
Like any other storm victims, the residents were temporarily housed in evacuation centers after their houses were hit by strong winds and rains.
In Cotabato city, Angara’s staff distributed P600,000 worth of food packs which, according to Mayor Bruce Matabalao is the “‘single biggest donation received by the Cotabato city government".
The senator’s staff also distributed 2,000 food packs to families at evacuation centers in Aklan province.
These included Numancia city in the presence of Mayor Jeserel Templonuevo, Balete city with Mayor Dexter Calizo, Madalag city with the personnel of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) represented by Annie Sioci, and Libacao city with Mayor Charito Navarosa and Vice Mayor Vincent Navarosa.
Libacao with was hard hit by landslide and floods that cascaded from Mt. Dalagsaan.
