1,374 aftershocks recorded after 6.4-magnitude Abra earthquake

State seismologists, on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 5, disclosed that 1,374 aftershocks have already been recorded following the powerful magnitude 6.4 quake that struck Lagayan, Abra on Oct. 25.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), at 4 p.m. on Saturday, said out of the 1,374 recorded quakes, only 468 were plotted while 32 were felt.

Earlier in October, Phivolcs said that the seismicity in Abra and nearby areas can be attributed to the presence of several active faults in the region.

The aforementioned quake was felt at a “destructive” Intensity VII in Danglas, Licuan-Baay, and Tubo, Abra; City of Batac, Dingras, Pinili, and Sarrat, Ilocos Norte; and Sinait, Ilocos Sur.

Intensity VI was recorded in La Paz, Lagayan, and Tineg, Abra; Balbalan, and Pasil, Kalinga; Bauko, Besao, Natonin, and Sabangan, Mountain Province; Banna, Carasi, City of Laoag, Marcos, Nueva Era, Paoay, and San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte; San Juan, Ilocos Sur; Aparri, Gonzaga, Iguig, Lasam, Peñablanca, Santa Ana, Santo Niño, and Solana, Cagayan.

The seismic event was “weak” at Intensity III in Aguinaldo, Alfonso Lista, and Mayoyao, Ifugao; Agoo, and Santo Tomas, La Union; Aguilar, Bautista, Bayambang, Binmaley, Bugallon, Dasol, Infanta, Labrador, Laoac, Lingayen, Mabini, Mangatarem, Natividad, City of San Carlos, San Fabian, San Manuel, San Nicolas, San Quintin, Santo Tomas, Sual, Tayug, Umingan, and Urbiztondo, Pangasinan; Alicia, Angadanan, Aurora, Benito Soliven, Burgos, Cabagan, Cabatuan, City of Cauayan, Cordon, Delfin Albano, Dinapigue, Gamu, City of Ilagan, Luna, Naguilian, Palanan, Quirino, Reina Mercedes, Roxas, San Mariano, and Tumauini, Isabela; City of Santiago; Kayapa, Nueva Vizcaya; Baler, Aurora; Pura, and Ramos, Tarlac; City of Iligan.

According to Phivolcs, it was “slightly felt” at Intensity II in Anda, Pangasinan; Echague, Jones, Ramon, San Agustin, San Guillermo, San Isidro, San Manuel, and San Mateo, Isabela; Ambaguio, Bagabag, Bambang, Bayombong, Diadi, Kasibu, Quezon, Solano, and Villaverde, Nueva Vizcaya; Aglipay, Cabarroguis, Diffun, Maddela, Nagtipunan, and Saguday, Quirino; Casiguran, and Dilasag, Aurora; Bamban, Camiling, Moncada, Paniqui, and San Manuel, Tarlac; Santa Cruz, Zambales.

Moreover, the powerful quake was “scarcely perceptible” at Intensity I in the City of Malabon; City of Navotas; Dinalungan, Aurora; Norzagaray, and Obando, Bulacan; as well as Candelaria, Zambales.
