San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora announced that the city has been recognized by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) for its exemplary performance in local governance and for its children-oriented initiatives.
Zamora said that during DILG's Urban Governance Exemplar Awards 2022, the city was recognized as a Child Friendly Local Government Unit for its performance in the delivery of services for children, garnering an over-all rating of 91.05 percent in the 2019 audit and 89.64 percent in the 2021 audit.
"Despite the pandemic hitting us hard, we really worked hard to provide exemplary services to our constituents. San Juan City distributed 19 waves of ayuda to make sure none of our constituents went hungry, and we provided tablets to all our public school students plus fiber optic internet connection to all households of our public school students in the city so that no child is left behind in terms of quality education," Zamora said.
He had earlier said that by November this year, all classrooms in the 13 public schools of San Juan City will be installed with 55-inch Smart TVs and will have WiFi and Fiber Optic Internet connection in common areas.
San Juan City also received plaques in the following categories: Functional Local Peace and Order Council, Moderately Functional Anti-Drug Abuse Council, Ideal Functionality Local Committees on Anti-Trafficking and Violence against Women and Children, and, Moderate Compliance in the LGU Compliance Audit for the Manila Bay Cleanup Rehabilitation and Preservation Program.
According to Zamora, the awards are testament of the city's mandate of protecting and improving the lives of its residents, especially in terms of maintaining peace and order, lowering the use of illegal drugs and the rehabilitation of Persons Who Use Drugs (PWUDs), upholding women and children’s rights, and protecting the environment.
“I would like to congratulate all our San Juan Local Government Unit Department Heads and Employees for this well-deserved recognition and thank them for their dedication to serving San Juanenos. Rest assured that we will continuously strive to do better in delivering the best public service to our constituents and show them that this is what we mean when we say Makabagong San Juan,” the mayor said.
