BACOLOD CITY - A man who just got out of jail last month was shot dead by an unidentified assailant at Sitio Indangawan, Barangay Manlucahoc, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental on Wednesday, Nov. 2.
The victim was identified as Dominador Tecson, 30, of Barangay Manlucahoc.
PMS Robert Castro, investigator of Sipalay City Police Station, said the victim was waiting for a bus when the gunman approached and shot him, hitting his hips and head.
Castro said the victim was released through probation after serving his sentence for frustrated murder which occurred in Candoni town in 2020.
Police initially eyed revenge as a possible motive in the incident, considering his previous case.
However, the Armando Sumayang Jr Command (ASJC) of the New People's Army (NPA) owned up to the killing.
In a statement dated Nov. 3, Ka Andrea Guerrero, spokesperson of ASJC, said that Tecson was an alleged active intelligence asset of the government.
Meanwhile, Castro said they have not verified yet with the Philippine Army if Tecson was an asset of the military.
He also said the victim had no record in the barangay or involved in any illegal activity.
He said the case is under investigation.
