BACOLOD CITY – A decomposing body of a two-day old baby girl was found in a sugarcane plantation in Barangay Nagasi, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental on Wednesday, Nov. 3.

La Carlota Police chief Lt. Col. Lowell Garinganao said the baby was discovered by two young laborers who smelled a nauseating stench as they passed the area that morning.
The baby was placed inside a plastic bag and was believed to have been left in the area for about three to five days already.
Garinganao said the laborers passed by the area that morning and smelled a foul odor, but they ignored it at first.
They passed by the same area again later that day, and decided to check on it.
Garinganao said they could not tell if the baby was already dead or still alive when left in the area.
He said that nobody was able to see who left the baby in the area. Thus, police could not identify the mother of the child.
Barangay officials decided to bury the baby on that day.
