SARIAYA, Quezon – Town mayor Marcelo Gayeta o Monday evening (Nov. 28) personally supervised the switch-on of Christmas lights on the façade of the municipal building in a simple ceremony signaling the celebration of Yuletide season after missing it for two years due to Covid-19 pandemic.
The event coincided with the Parol Festival initiated by Marivic Gayeta, chair of the Sariaya tourism council that is bidding to revive its tourism industry which suffered a big setback because of the pandemic.
Sariaya is known for having fine beaches in the Calabarzon area (Cavite, Laguna,Batangas, Rizal, Quezon).
Sariaya is also regarded as the ‘heritage town’ of Quezon for maintaining almost a hundred cultural properties from the Spanish era.
The legendary Mt. Banahaw -- the so-called holy land – is also in this town/ The event dubbed as “Paskong Sariayahin Makulay at Nagniningning” was welcomed by a five-minute firework display after local singers rendered the official Christmas song of Sariaya.
The municipal plaza is also decorated with various Christmas lights to feel the presence of the season.
Mayor Gayeta recalled that the purpose of the celebration is to instill in reciprocity, love, and cooperation among its residents for the speedy recovery of the town’s economy.
