Petro Gazz recovered from a third-set stumble as it turned back a gritty Cignal side, 25-14, 25-21, 25-27, 25-19, to stay in the finals hunt in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City Tuesday, Nov. 29.

The Angels drew strength from import Lindsey Vander Weide particularly in the fourth set to keep themselves afloat for one of the championship berths.
They finished the round-robin semifinals tied with the HD Spikers at 2-1 as they wait for the results of the match between Creamline and Chery Tiggo, who are playing at presstime, to know their fate.
Despite the loss, Cignal, however, clinched the first finals berth by virtue of superior set ratio.
Vander Weide poured all her 30 points on attacks for Petro Gazz, who squandered three match points in the third set before picking themselves up in the fourth frame.
With Cignal cutting its deficit to 21-19 in the third, Vander Weide launched an assault by scoring two of the last four points to give Petro Gazz the crucial victory.
Vander Weide credited her chemistry with her teammates, particularly with setter Djanel Cheng.
“Me and Cheng are meshing in this match and I’m just glad we managed to turn things around after the third set,” Vander Weide said.
“Even if we lost that set, we knew we still have it. We pushed until the end.”
MJ Phillips also carried the fight for the Angels particularly in the defensive end, posting seven blocks to finish with 13 points. Aiza Pontillas, meanwhile, joined forces with Vander Weide in the offensive by firing all her 10 points on kills.
Cignal, which was coming off a stunning four-set victory over Creamline last Sunday, appeared to have lost its steam after being overpowered on attacks, 60-44, and on blocks, 13-4.
Tai Bierria was the lone double-digit scorer for the HD Spikers with 15 points.
