4 LTO enforcers in viral 'extortion attempt' in Bulacan face dismissal

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) sacked four of its enforcers in connection with the alleged extortion attempt on a motorist in Bocaue, Bulacan over the weekend, the video of the incident went viral on social media.

LTO chief Jose Arturo Tugade said he also summoned the four traffic enforcers to explain what happened as part of the ongoing investigation to determine if they indeed demanded P8,000 from a motorist whom they accosted.

"We will get to the bottom of this incident. Once their wrongdoing is proven, LTO Chief Tugade said they will be immediately stripped of their duties as law enforcers and the Agency will pursue the filing of administrative cases against the officers, including recommending possible criminal charges," said Tugade.

On the video, the motorist was heard and seen arguing with the LTO enforcers on board LTO Mobile #14 with license plate SHS 234.

Tugade said the four enforcers were relieved pending the result of the investigation.

“I have repeatedly said that I will not condone corruption at LTO both at the LTO offices and on the field. There will be zero tolerance on corruption," said Tugade.

Tugade likewise thanked concerned netizens for reporting the incident via social media.

“These enforcers would have probably gotten scot-free had it not been for the vigilance of our netizens so we would like to thank them. I hope that those who may want to get involved or are already involved in illegal activities better think about it first because now, not only the LTO but also the netizens, are watching them,” he said.
