Visitation at Cebu City Jail male dorm set to resume

CEBU CITY – Visitation at the Cebu City Jail Male Dormitory in Barangay Kalunasan here is set to resume.

To ensure a smooth flow of the visitation’s return, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-run facility will hold a dry run from Nov. 29 to Dec. 3.

Jail Officer 3 Blanche Aliño, the facility’s Community Relations Service Officer, said visitation was stopped on March 20, 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Several inmates contracted the deadly and highly transmissible virus that caused the suspension of the visitation.

On Nov. 29, visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. for Main Building 14 to 25, kitchen, and cafeteria. On Nov. 30, visitation will also be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. for drug offenders staying at Building 14 to 21, reception, and diagnostic cells.

On Dec. 1, visitors for the Main Building 1 to 14 will be allowed from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. On Dec. 2, visitation will be allowed from 8 a.m. to 12 noon for Building 1 to 13 and on Dec. 3, jail visits will be allowed from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. for Annex Building.

At least 6,100 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) are housed at the facility.

The facility has issued some regulations that visitors must strictly observe. Among the rules that visitors must follow is the placing of food intended for inmates in transparent containers.

Food such as “bola-bola” (meatballs), ‘’lumpia’’ (spring rolls), chorizo (sausage), sliced bread, banana, and grapes are prohibited.

Visitors must also bring valid identification card or any certification that will confirm their identities. They must also bring documents that will prove that they are related to the inmates that they are visiting.

For non-vaccinated visitors, they must present results of an RT-PCR test taken 72 hours or an antigen test taken 24 hours before the visit. Minors and women seven-months and above pregnant are not allowed.

Each PDL is allowed to accept a maximum of two visitors.
