Known for its picturesque sunsets and beaches, the newly-constructed seaside boulevard in the town of Ballesteros in Cagayan Province is expected to further boost its tourism industry, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said on Monday, Nov. 28.
The DPWH–Cagayan Second District Engineering Office (DPWH-CSDEO) said the completion of the two phases of the Ballesteros Bay View Project will also provide more employment to local residents with the expected influx of local and foreign tourists.
DPWH-CSDEO officer in charge (OIC)-District Engineer Rellie Dalmaceda said that the public may utilize the completed 824-linear meter portion for physical and leisure activities like jogging, cycling and sight-seeing while work in the final phases of the boulevard project is ongoing.
The Ballesteros Bay View Project is a joint undertaking of the DPWH and the Department of Tourism under Convergence and Special Support Program - Construction/Improvement of Access Roads Leading to Tourist Destinations. Its Phases 1 and 2 have received a total allocation of P40 million from the 2021 General Appropriations Acts (GAA).
Once the remaining Phase 3 and 4 are completed, DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan stated that it will be opened as a scenic road for all road users, motorists, bikers, and pedestrians.
The boulevard is envisioned to generate benefits for local tourism and small businesses which can boost the town’s overall economy, aside from providing alternate routes to motorists.
“Accessing the beach for both locals and tourists will also be more convenient,’’ Dalmaceda continued. (Chito A. Chavez)
