DepED urges teachers, parents to be 'reading champions' for children
The Department of Education (DepED) on Monday, Nov. 28, called on education stakeholders to continue nurturing good reading habits, especially among children.

“We urge our teachers, parents, and education partners to continue setting good examples as reading champions for our children,” DepED said in a statement issued on the celebration of this year’s Pambansang Buwan ng Pagbasa at Araw ng Pagbasa (National Reading Month and National Reading Day).
Recognizing the critical role of reading and literacy in its quest to deliver quality education, DepED reiterated its commitment to making “Bawat Bata Bumabasa (Every Child is a Reader) a reality to provide more opportunities for the Filipino youth.
“Our schools all over the nation have conducted various activities such as Read-a-Thon, Share-a-Book drive, and Book Talk, to promote the love for reading — a foundational step in basic education — among learners,” DepED said.
DepED, under the leadership of Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Z. Duterte, said it “remains steadfast in anchoring its reforms and initiatives to improve the country’s literacy rate and bridge the learning gap.”
As part of the celebration of the 2022 NRM and National Reading Day, DepED also held a program livestreamed on its Facebook page.
Duterte, in a recorded video, led the storytelling activities for the National Reading Day by reading “Ang Kamatis ni Peles Pitong Araw na Trabaho” and “Ang Bungtod Ug Ako.”
