Petro Gazz bounced back in a convincing fashion after making quick work of Chery Tiggo in straight sets, 25-15, 25-17, 25-13, in the round-robin semifinals of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference on Sunday, Nov. 27, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Lindsey Vander Weide finished with 18 points off 14 attacks and four aces to tow the Angels to a dominant victory in 80 minutes of play.
Myla Pablo and Aiza Pontillas also chipped in 15 and 11 points, respectively.
The Angels, who were coming off a recent loss to the Creamline Cool Smashers, kept their finals aspirations alive and seized a 1-1 record in the semis standings.
Petro Gazz wasted no time in the third set and led by as much as 11, 17-6, midway following a Myla Pablo denial at the net on Jaila Atienza.
It didn’t help that the Crossovers couldn’t ignite a consistent rally from their end which eventually led to two consecutive errors off an attack error and net violation that gave the win to the Angels.
“Siguro ‘yong today lang mas nag-focus kami sa na ito talaga ‘yong game na mas kailangan namin. Kailangan lahat ng panalo eh. Pero nawala ‘yong pressure na kailangan namin makuha. Naglaro lang kami nang nage-enjoy sila and mas naging clear lang individual roles nila,” said Petro Gazz head coach Rald Ricafort.
Mylene Paat paced the Crossovers as the lone bright spot with 10 points as they absorbed a 0-2 semis record.
