Fair weather in most of Luzon, Visayas; rains still expected in Mindanao due to ITCZ

Most of Luzon and Visayas may enjoy a generally fair weather condition in the next 24-hour period, while residents of Mindanao may still expect rains due to the prevalence of Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Weather Specialist Benison Estareja said a fair weather condition will prevail over most of the country on Saturday, Nov. 26.

“Patuloy ang mainit at maalinsangang panahon sa malaking bahagi ng Luzon at Visayas dahil sa easterlies. Sa malaking bahagi ng Mindanao maging sa Palawan asahan ang localized thunderstorms na bahagyang epekto naman ng ITCZ (Warm and humid weather will prevail in most of Luzon and Visayas due to easterlies. Expect localized thunderstorms in most of Mindanao and Palawan due to ITCZ),” said Estareja in a public weather forecast.

Meanwhile, two weather disturbances near and outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) are being monitored by the state weather bureau.

A cloud cluster was spotted east of Visayas near the Philippine boundary. This weather disturbance, according to Estareja, may further approach the country and bring rains in most of Visayas and Bicol region.

Another weather disturbance approximately 3,000 kilometers east of Mindanao outside PAR was also spotted by PAGASA. Like the cloud cluster, this low pressure area (LPA) may gradually approach the country and bring rains in the southeast portion of Mindanao.

“ maaaring magpa-ulan sa mga unang araw ng Disyembre. Hindi natin inaalis yung possibility na ito ay maging bagyo, (This LPA is likely to bring rains in the first days of December. We are not ruling out the possibility of this becoming a tropical cyclone)” said Estareja.
