The Department of Tourism in Western Visayas (Region 6) said that 1.54 million tourists have visited the world-famous Boracay Island as of mid-November.

This is 75 percent of the pre-pandemic figure in 2019 when more than two million tourists set foot on the resort island in Malay town, Aklan province.

However, Boracay's tourism revenues went down, earning P28.1 billion from 1.54 million visitors.

Tourist arrivals have started to dip even before the pandemic hit in early 2020 and the worldwide lockdown.

It took almost two years for Boracay’s tourist numbers to go up after travel restrictions were gradually eased.

Boracay tourist arrivals from June to July this year surpassed that in the same period in 2019.

Last June, there were 193,650 tourists who visited Boracay, compared to 189,444 in June 2019.

The next month, Boracay had 183,096 tourists. In July 2019, 172,345 tourists were on the island.

In September, 120,694 tourists descended on Boracay, down from 122,373 in the same month in 2019.
