Pisay-Lanao students bag 10 awards from 3 int'l math, physics tilts

A total of 10 awards were bagged by students from Philippine Science High School - Central Mindanao Campus (PSHS-CMC) in Balo-i, Lanao del from three international mathematics and physics contests this November.

According to the PSHS System, winning in the International Calculus Olympiad (ICO) 2022, Abdurrazzaq G. Maraye received the gold award while Mohammad Nur G. Casib clinched the silver award. Kent Howell J. Herrera, Lance Vincent C. Canceran, and Louis Francis U. Zaportiza bagged the bronze awards.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Nur Casib won gold award and Stanley King Saavadra, Denzel Van Lorenzo, and Geolian Marie Lorenzo bagged silver awards in the World’s Young Physicists Olympiad (WYPO).
The Organizing Center for STEM Olympiad (OCSO) organized the ICO and WYPO 2022. OCSO is an association engaged in STEM development to create 21st century skills: critical thinking, creative thinking, collaborations, communication, and computational thinking through healthy academic competitions.
OCSO was formed by representative organizations from Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Germany, Mexico, Greece, Bulgaria, United Arab Emirates, and the Philippines.
Abdurrazzaq G. Maraye also won silver in the Online International Math Challenge 2022 with 5000 participants from 81 countries.
Lyndon Decasa and Ronn Marr Perez served as coaches.
“Participating in these international competitions complements the interest of Pisay scholars in pursuing careers in mathematics. Providing a framework for modeling systems, mathematics is useful in the fields of aerospace engineering, software development, animation, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, public health planning, and infectious disease management, among others,” said PSHS System Executive Director Lilia T. Habacon.
“I commend the Pisay-Lanao students and their coach for bringing honor to our country. Their victory is a proof that the Filipino youth can be at par with their global counterparts,” she added.
