BACOLOD CITY -- A government employee was wounded after he was shot by unidentified assailants riding-in-tandem at his house in Barangay 9, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental on Thursday, Nov. 24.
The victim was identified as Vicente Genova, 54, and is assigned as city engineer in the neighboring city of Himamaylan.
Lt. Col. Alvimar Flores, Kabankalan police chief, said the victim was cleaning his car at the garage when the suspects arrived and looked for him.
Flores said the victim answered them once. But, when he was asked again for confirmation, he noticed that one of the suspects was about to pull a firearm.
This prompted him to throw a cloth to distract them, he added.
Flores said the victim managed to run, but he was hit in his left leg. His family was inside the house when the incident happened.
Police recovered from the crime scene an ammunition of .45 caliber firearm, and two fired cartridges of .9mm caliber firearm.
Flores said the victim was already discharged from the hospital.
Police have yet to determine the motive in the slay attempt.
