BACOLOD CITY - Two soldiers were killed in an ambush allegedly staged by the New People’s Army (NPA) at Sitio Camboguiot, Barangay Camindangan, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental on Thursday, Nov. 24.

Based on a police report, the fatalities were identified as Sgt. Regie Glendro and Staff Sgt. Ken Camilan, intelligence operatives of the Philippine Army’s 47th Infantry Battalion (IB) based in Barangay Haba, Candoni town.
Brig. Gen. Leonardo Peña, commander of 302nd Infantry Brigade (IBde), said the victims were on their way to conduct local peace engagement coordination, in relation to the Army’s peace efforts in the area when the incident happened.
The police said that the victims were riding a motorcycle when a group of unidentified armed persons shot them.
Peña said that pursuit operations are ongoing to hunt down the perpetrators.
Peña said that remnants of the NPA are doing their best to recover their strength in the area.
He assured that the military will not stop hunting them down, especially with the recent incident.
