CEBU CITY -- Six alleged gamblers were arrested in Cebu as police authorities kept their relentless campaign against illegal gambling in Central Visayas.
Arrested in San Fernando town, southern Cebu were Reynaldo Villasurda 57; Lowela Campaña 41; and Timoteo Baruman, 46.
In Tabogon, northern Cebu, police arrested Rubbie Mae Aisha Roflo 37; Ritchel Roflo 39; and Ljobomer Talines, 43.
Police said Villasula, Campaña, Baruman and the Roflo cousins served as ushers of an illegal numbers game called ‘swertres.’
Talines was also arrested after he was caught betting on ‘swertres’ that was not authorized by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).
Brig. Gen. Roderick Augustus Alba, regional director of the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO-7), has said stopping illegal gambling activities especially those illegal numbers game are one of the priorities of PRO-7.
Alba warned the police will continue to run after those engaging in illegal numbers game not authorized by the PCSO.
The PCSO has sought help from the police after its revenues dwindled considerably because of a continued operation of illegal numbers game in various areas in the province.
