Rotary International's first woman president visits Manila; will view service projects

Rotary Districts in the Philippines, collectively known as the Zone 10A of the Rotary International (RI), are hosting the humanitarian service organization's global head, RI President Jennifer Jones.

Jones arrived in Manila on November 23 and will be visiting various Rotary service project sites until November 29. This is part of her "Imagine Impact Tour" aimed at assessing how Rotary Clubs all over the world are creating positive change and lasting impact in the communities.

The 10 Rotary Districts in the country have prepared a line-up of activities for the RI head's Philippine visit. A DEI Townhall tops this list as Jones, the first female president in the Rotary's 117-year history, is known to champion Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).

The DEI Townhall will feature Jones and a panel of renowned DEI advocates as speakers who will discuss topics such as LGBTQ rights, women empowerment, community empowerment and economic inclusion, cultural inclusion and peace, pride in Rotary journey, and gender equality and bridging intergenerational gaps in Rotary.

Another event lined up for Imagine Impact Tour Philippines is the Rotary Community Corps (RCC) Showcase organized by the Rotary Village Corps Foundation and the 10 Rotary Districts. The event will promote the Districts' partnership projects with the Rotary Community Corps that carry out projects in their communities in partnership with local Rotary clubs

Jones will also visit select service projects such as the Rotary Club of Makati West's Gift of Life Program, the Rotary Club of Makati San Lorenzo's Project Calawis, and the Tuloy sa Don Bosco in Alabang supported by Districts 3810 and 3830

Also in Jones's itinerary is gracing the 53rd Charter Anniversary Gala of the Rotary Club of Makati West (RCMW), currently the biggest rotary club in the Philippines under District 3830 currently led by Gov. Mildred Vitangcol.

RCMW President Gil Chua said that Makati West Rotanans have been preparing to welcome Jones when she visits their Gift of Life program onsite, and when she graces the club's 53rd Anniversary celebration

"In both occasions, we shall endeavor to showcase Filipino hospitality and culture, and show our Ri president why Filipinos are probably the world's most dedicated Rotarians," said Chua

The Ri head's visit to the Philippines was upon the invitation of RCMW Adviser and Past RI Director Guiller Tumangan on behalf of Philippine based Rotarians

"The different Rotary districts are all set to welcome our global head to the Philippines. President Jones' visit is an excellent opportunity for us to come together and show our commitment to Service Above Self through our participation in the different stages of her visit in the country," said Tumangan.

Jones will not only be able to see the impact of the Rotary in Filipino communities, but will also get to experience Filipino traditions, arts and culture through the events incorporated in her itinerary.

Being arranged as well is her meetings with business leaders, influencers, and senior government officials intended to deepen relationships with non-Rotarian stakeholders and create new partnerships that will help advance the Rotary's goals.
