Oliver Tolentino presented a piece at the recent APEC meeting in Bangkok

The Fil-Am and Beverly Hills-based fashion designer’s piece was inspired by the distinct Thai architecture

After showcasing his works at the MQ Vienna Fashion Week 2022, Fil-Am and Beverly Hills-based fashion designer Oliver Tolentino was tapped to present a piece at the recent Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in Bangkok. He is one of the designers representing APEC’s 21 member countries.

His piece, which represents the US, was inspired by Thai architecture. Created with fabric supplied by Queen Sirikit’s silk factory, the design features a turquoise gown accented with intricate hand-made couture strips, buttons, and petals. Completing the look is a jacket with design elements mirroring Thai architectural design.

According to the designer’s team, all of the countries’ outfits were modeled at a gala dinner hosted by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha last Nov. 17 and were witnessed by 21 world leaders, including American vice president Kamala Harris. Thailand held a special fashion show the following day for all the world press. The looks were also displayed in the entrance hall to the world press room.
