OCTA observes 'spike' in Metro Manila's Covid-19 positivity rate

The OCTA Research Group has seen a significant increase in the weekly positivity rate of Covid-19 in Metro Manila.

Positivity rate refers to the number of individuals who yielded positive results from among those who were tested for Covid-19.

“The seven-day positivity rate in Metro Manila spiked up to 9.2 percent as of Nov. 22, from 7.4 percent on Nov. 15,” OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David said on Thursday, Nov. 24.

David pointed out that if trends continue, Metro Manila may see the start of another wave of infections similar to the Covid-19 wave in June.

“Unless the trends change, this looks like the start of another wave of infections in the NCR (National Capital Region) as cases will likely start increasing again,” he said.

The World Health Organization recommended that the positivity rate should remain at 5 percent or less to show that the spread of the virus is under control.

David advised the public to “stay safe.”
