Cignal edges Chery Tiggo to claim first semis win

Cignal exacted sweet revenge on preliminaries conqueror Chery Tiggo with a 28-26, 25-17, 25-23 victory Thursday night, Nov. 24, at the start of the semifinals in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

The HD Spikers capitalized on their fiery offense to pounce on the Crossovers and join the Creamline Cool Smashers in the winning column of the round-robin phase.

Tai Bierria flexed her might and fired 21 points built on 19 kills and two blocks, while Angeli Araneta also stepped up to the challenge with 10 points as Cignal avenged its 25-23, 20-25, 25-21, 25-20 prelims defeat to Chery Tiggo last Oct. 15.

Skipper Rachel Anne Daquis also poured all her nine points on attacks for the HD Spikers even as Ria Meneses and Roselyn Doria combined for 16 points.

Mylene Paat and Jelena Cvijovic were limited to 11 and 10 points as Chery Tiggo were outplayed in attacks, 52-39.

It also didn’t help that the Crossovers only managed 10 excellent sets.
