Caloocan gov't distributes 150 startup packages

The Caloocan City government distributed on Thursday, Nov. 24, a total of 150 startup packages for residents who have completed their free skills training program.

The startup packages contain various tools for hairdressing, massage, and cosmetology services which the graduates can use in earning a living.

“Nais natin iparamdam sa mga kababayan natin na marami pong oportunidad na magkaroon ng pangkabuhayan sa Caloocan. Kailangan lang po ng tiyaga at dedikasyon (We want to make our people feel that there are many opportunities for livelihood in Caloocan. It just takes patience and dedication),” Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan said.

Through the free skills training program conducted by the Caloocan City Manpower Training Center (CCMTC) which is under the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), the residents were able to take four-month courses such as such as housekeeping, advanced computer operations, cosmetology, and culinary.

There are already 1,682 residents who finished the program as of Nov. 24, according to the city government. They attended their classes under the blended learning mode (online and face-to-face classes).

Of the total, 1,227 from Caloocan City North graduated on Thursday, while 455 (from Caloocan City South) also completed the program on Monday, Nov. 21.

Malapitan said the CCMTC shall assist graduates of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority’s (TESDA) National Certification II-Certification and Assessment to hone their technical competency.

“Nais ng Pamahalaang Lungsod na diretso na makapaghanapbuhay ang mga nagtapos sa skills training natin. Habang ‘yung iba naman na gustong ipagpatuloy ang kanilang training para magkaroon ng certification, tutulungan natin sa kanilang assessment sa TESDA (The City Government wants those who have graduated from our skills training to find direct livelihood. Those who want to continue their training to obtain certification, we will help them with their assessment at TESDA),” the mayor said.
