The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has issued the guidelines for the 2022 observance of the 18-day campaign to end violence against women (VAW).
In Memorandum Circular (MC) 2022-146, DILG Secretary Benjamin ‘Benhur’ Abalos Jr. stated that this year’s campaign will spotlight the gains and milestones achieved in the bid to prevent and address VAW in the country.
This will be done through the assessment of VAW-related laws implementation and enhancement of initiatives for such measures.
“Pursuant to Proclamation 1172, Series of 2006 which declares November 25 to december 12 of every year as the 18-day campaign to end violence against women (VAW) and Republic Act (RA) No. 10398 which declares November 25 of every year as the National Consciousness Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Children, the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) in collaboration with the Inter-Agency Council on Violence Against Woemn and their Children (IAVAWC) is spearheading the observance of the 18-day campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW),’’ the MC said.
The MC stated that this year will mark the start of the new-six year (2022-2027) recurring theme for the campaign; “United for a VAW-free Philippines.’’
Abalos explained that the MC will “guide the stakeholders on the national observance of the 18-day campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) from Nov. 25 to Dec. 12, 2022.
With the issuance of the MC, Abalos ordered the DILG regional directors to immediately disseminate the directive to all the concerned local government units (LGUs) within their respective jurisdictions.
In the same manner, Abalos requested the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Minister of the Interior and Local Government to circulate the same MC to all local officials with the territory. (Chito A. Chavez)
