1 or 2 cyclones may enter or form within PH area of responsibility in December — PAGASA

One or two tropical cyclones may develop within or enter the country’s area of responsibility in December, based on the climatological record of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
The next tropical cyclone names will be Rosal and Samuel.
PAGASA said cyclone tracks in December indicate that some are “landfalling” or crossing the Philippines, but there are other cyclones that are “recurving” or not directly affecting the country.
Moreover, it pointed out that the La Niña—which increases the likelihood of having above normal rainfall conditions—may persist until the January-March period.
La Niña is responsible for excessive rainfall in some parts of the country, which has caused floods and landslides, especially in areas vulnerable to these hazards.
Based on the PAGASA’s rainfall forecast, “generally near to above normal” rainfall may prevail across the country in December, with a high probability of “above normal” rainfall conditions.
From January to February 2023, “generally near to above normal rainfall conditions are likely in most parts of the country expect for some areas in western Luzon that may receive below normal rainfall.”
However, PAGASA said there is still a high possibility of above normal rainfall during this period.
