'Sayang': Makabayan solon bothered by 31M wasted Covid-19 jabs
A Makabayan lawmaker is up in arms over the reported 31 million doses or P15.6 billion worth of Covid-19 vaccines that have gone to waste.

"The government should not take the over 31 million doses of wasted Covid-19 lightly. This wastage is worth an estimated cost of P15.6 billion of the people's money," ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro said in a statement Tuesday, Nov. 22.
Castro, a deputy minority leader in the House of Representatives, slammed the Department of Health (DOH) for the vaccine wastage, which reportedly comprised 12 percent of the 250.38 million doses received and procured by the government.
"Government should aim for as little wastage of Covid-19 vaccines as possible...Government must take this wastage issue seriously and ensure that services are accessible by the people," she stressed.
She said the World Health Organization (WHO) has set a 10 percent threshold for vaccine wastage.
"We filed House Resolution (HR) 179 last August to probe the millions of expired Covid-19 vaccines. With this updated report, Congress should urgently conduct an investigation to ensure that this much wastage does not happen again," the lady solon underscored.
"Sa dulo, ang mamamayan ang nananatiling lugi sa mga nasayang na bakunang ito dahil bakuna na ito na maaari sanang mapakinabangan ng mamamayan (In the end, it's the people who will be at a disadvantage from the wasted vaccines since these could have been used on them)," she further said.
