Navotas City Mayor John Rey Tiangco and the City Council led the awarding ceremony for "One Barangay One Product (OBOP)" and the blessing of two dump trucks at the Navotas City Hall on Monday, Nov. 21.
"One Barangay, One Product" is an award given by the city government and councils for barangays that have successfully produced and promoted their local products through their advocacies and efficiency.
The barangay product entries were judged based on their originality, marketability, taste and quality, and actual presentation.
The Barangay Tangos North won the OBOP title award through their "kakaning tibok-tibok" (carabao-milk pudding) and received a P30,000 cash prize which they said will be used as additional production capital.
A cash prize of P25,000 for the OBOP's second place was given to Barangay Navotas West for their tuna chips, while Barangay Tanza 1 placed third and received P20,000 for their mushroom farming project.
Other barangay product entries were Daanghari's "tocihong" (tocino tahong or spicy mussels), San Rafael Village's crab siomai, San Jose's longganisang hubad, North Bay Boulevard South's (NBBS) fish empanada, NBBS Dagat-dagatan's shrimp tempura, NBBS Kaunlaran' various souvenir products, Bagumbayan North's fish longganisa, Bagumbayan South's macrame plant hanger, Tanza 2's potato crab ball, Tangos South's Chinese kikiam, San Roque's relyenong bangus, Bangkulasi's bagoong, Navotas East's sukang silangan, and Sipac-Almacen's puto fish pao.
“Navotas is rich in raw materials that can be utilized to produce new and innovative products. We encourage Navoteños to use and make the most out of these resources,” Tiangco said.
Meanwhile, the city government also purchased two additional dump trucks to increase efficiency for garbage collection and strengthen its sustainable waste management program.
Part of the event was to also recognize the city government offices and agency members that collectively worked to earn various titles and awards for the city, including awards from the Department of Health-Metro Manila Center for Health Development, and the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development- National Capital Region (DHSUD-NCR), two prizes from the Bureau of Local Government Finance, eight citations in the 2022 Urban Governance Exemplar Awards from the Department of the Interior and Local Government-NCR.
