The Korean drama “The King’s Affection,” which starred Park Eun-bin and Rowoon, won at the 50th International Emmy Awards held on Nov. 21 at the Hilton Hotel in New York City.
Presented by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, the International Emmy Awards honored winners from eight countries including South Korea.
At the ceremony, Korean actor Song Joong-ki, who is currently starring in the drama “Reborn Rich,” presented the Directorate Award to Miky Lee, vice chairwoman of the CJ Group.
“Television around the world has really come of age. What is especially gratifying on this 50th anniversary is seeing the number of countries globally which produce world class television programs and personalities, and win Emmys,” said International Academy President and CEO Bruce Paisner.
“The King’s Affection,” which aired on Korean channel KBS2 from October to December last year and streamed on Netflix, won best telenovela.
“What if there was a King who was a woman but must pretend to be a man? What if, then, a man fell in love with this ‘King’ without knowing their true identity? A romantic yet tragic story of two young persons enwrapped in the royal court politics,” according to the International Emmy Awards website about the Korean drama.
It bested “Nos Tempos Do Imperador” (Brazil), “Two Lives” (Spain) and “You Are My Hero” (China).

Dougray Scott won the Emmy for Best Performance by an Actor for his role as detective Ray Lennox in Irvine Welsh’s “Crime.”
Lou de Laâge received the Emmy for Best Performance by an Actress for her role as Eugenie in “Le Bal Des Folles .”
