Bicol chess prodigy Bince Rafael Operiano, who topped the under 10 years old category in the recent 6th Eastern Asia Youth Chess Championship held in Bangkok, Thailand has been feted by the House of Representatives.
This, after the House adopted during plenary session Monday night, Nov. 21 House Resolution (HR) No. 576.
Born on Oct. 24, 2013 to parents Ben Operiano and Rosemary Roblico Operiano, the grade three pupil from San Isidro Elementary School in qualified for the international tournament after he won the National Youth and Schools Chess Championship Grand Finals Boys under 9 category held at the Dapitan City Cultural Complex in Zamboanga del Norte last September.
The 6th Eastern Asia Youth Chess Championship took place from Nov. 4 for 12.
“In winning the chess championship in the international arena, Bince Operiano brought immense pride to the Filipino people and inspired his peers and the future generations of chess players to achieve greatness despite the odds that are stacked against them,” HR No.576 said.
HR No. 576 was adopted in consolidation with HR Nos. 541, 542, 565, and 568.
AGRI Party-list Rep. Wilbert T. Lee, author of HR No.568, noted that the nine-year-old Bince showed skill and determination "despite the challenges he and his family experienced such as limited funds and other logistical problems".

"By winning a trophy and four medals, he has made our country proud and has shown the spirit of Filipino competitiveness and excellence in chess. He deserves to be commended for the honor, recognition, and inspiration he has brought,” Lee said in his measure.
A total of 181 players from 12 countries in Eastern Asia participated in the said chess competition hosted by the Thailand Chess Association.
Declared as the overall champion, the Philippines bagged 32 gold, 27 silver and 22 bronze medals from the event.
