Bohol mulling over holding ‘Suroy Suroy Sugbo’

TAGBILARAN CITY -- Bohol Gov. Aris Aumentado is open to replicating the ‘Suroy Suroy Sugbo (Wander around Cebu)’ — the flagship tourism program of the province of Cebu.

Aumentado said that if he gets the chance, he will talk to Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia about the possibility of holding Bohol’s version of Suroy Suroy Sugbo.

"As long as dili masuko si Governor Gwen na akong sundogon iyang programa (As long as Governor Gwen Garcia will not get angry if I will copy her program),” Aumentado said when asked if he is willing to copy the concept of the program during a media briefing on Monday, Nov. 21.

Aumentado was aware that Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr. has encouraged local government units to use Suroy Suroy Sugbo as a tourism program template.

Abalos graced the recent Suroy Suroy Sugbo, which featured the southern towns of Cebu.

“We will study if this is applicable in Bohol,” said Aumentado.

Just like Cebu, Bohol is also home to topnotch tourist destinations. The province is composed of 46 towns and one city.

"I think Governor Gwen will be happy if Suroy Suroy Sugbo will be copied. Because if we copy it, it means her wisdom is very effective and successful,” Aumentado said.

Suroy Suroy Sugbo started in 2005. It is a group tour package where participants visit the featured towns which will showcase their tourist attractions, festivals and delicacies.

Suroy Suroy Sugbo has five legs that include the Southern Heritage Trail for Southern Cebu Towns, Northern Escapade for Northern Cebu towns and Enchanting Camotes for Camotes Island.

The program has separate legs for midwest Cebu towns and Bantayan Island.
