Advent Energy, Inc., one of the licensed retail electricity supplier (RES) subsidiary of Aboitiz Power Corporation, will be supplying renewable energy-generated power capacity to two manufacturing firms in the Visayas.
The two new customers of the Aboitiz group are car builder NKC Manufacturing Philippines Corporation (NKC) which is based in Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu, and the other is sugar producer Victorias Milling Company (VMC) in Negros Occidental.
The power supply deals inked by Advent Energy with these customers is anchored on the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), a government-underpinned edict that promotes the use of RE sources among end-users and is also a paramount element of the country’s decarbonization strategy.
The power to be delivered to NKC and VMC will be from the "Cleanergy brand" of the Aboitiz group, an amalgamation of the company’s RE portfolio generated from geothermal, solar, run-of-river hydro as well as large scale hydro technologies.
The growing patronage of customers on their clean energy capacities, according to Aboitiz Power Senior Vice President for Commercial Operations Sandro Aboitiz, manifests “the market's positive response toward the government’s GEOP program as it drives the company to continue its momentum in reaching a 50:50 balance in its generation portfolio.”
GEOP is one of the policy toolboxes instituted by the government enabling consumers to exercise their "power of choice" where they can directly negotiate for their power supply contracts with preferred suppliers and specify RE as the source of electricity.
Aboitiz reiterated their company’s support to the GEOP undertaking “as it gives customers the freedom to choose renewable energy in meeting their energy requirements and their own energy supplier.”
NKC President Norihiko Matsuda noted that “using reliable and responsibly-sourced energy is important in business operations,” especially so since their facility is touted as an energy-intensive venture.
He stressed “while we help build vehicles, we want to do our part in creating a safer world where families can enjoy the products we put to life. We are confident that having Aboitiz Power as a supplier paves the way for NKC to go full speed with this direction.”
For its part, VMC emphasized that switching to RE for the operation of their bioethanol facility “is a way to help the company achieve its sustainability goals.”
VMC President Minnie Chua said “our company undertakes environmentally responsible practices within our business and promotes these across our supply chain and surrounding environment.”
The company added that with this step, they are aiming to “positively impact the wider ecological system by using energy-saving technology, and minimizing energy consumption, carbon emissions, and pollution.”
