Citing the rapidly changing geopolitical climate in the region, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. said that the relationship between the Philippines and the United States is now more critical and must evolve to address the situation properly.

Marcos said this as he welcomed US Vice President Kamala Harris to Malacañang on Monday, November 21. Harris is on a three-day Working Visit to the Philippines from November 20 to 22, 2022.
In his remarks, Marcos thanked Harris for visiting the Philippines, saying her visit was a testament to the strong ties the two countries share.
"Your visit is a very strong symbol that these relationships remain strong, that these relationships remain important, as indeed, they do," he said.
However, President Marcos said the relationship between the Philippines and the US must evolve and respond to the changing times.
"The situation is rapidly changing. We must evolve to be properly responsive to that situation," he said.
"That is why it is important that we continue to progress, that we continue to strengthen as we redefine those relationships," he added.
Marcos and Harris had met briefly in Bangkok, Thailand, on the sidelines of the 29th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders' Summit last week.
Before this, President Marcos went to New York in September, where he met US President Joseph Biden.
During this meeting, the two leaders clarified how they see the evolving relationship between the United States and the Philippines.
