3 rape suspects arrested in Kalinga

RIZAL, Kalinga – Police arrested three suspects in the rape of a minor in 2011 in Barangay Liwan West here on Saturday, Nov. 19.

The suspects – John Ray Baggas Balunggay, 24, miner; Justin Salabao Wandaga, 24, WiFi installer, and Jonel Baggas Balunggay, 23, miner, all residents of Masablang, Pinukpuk, Kalinga – were arrested at 5:20 p.m. while waiting for a bus to Tuguegarao City.

Police said the suspects were arrested on warrants issued by Judge Jerson Angog of Branch 25, Regional Trial Court, Second Judicial Region, Tabuk City, Kalinga on Oct. 24.

The victim said she was raped by the suspects in different times, dates, and places in 2011. She filed the complaint before the police with her guardian.

Balunggay was charged with two counts of rape while Wandaga faces acts of lasciviousness in relation to Republic Act 7610 with a bail of P36,000 and rape through sexual assault with no bail.

Jonel also faces a rape charge with no corresponding bail.
