Grade 10 student killed, 3 others hurt by motorcycle debris in Pangasinan


MAPANDAN, Pangasinan – A 16-year-old Grade 10 student died and three others were injured after they were hit by debris from a motorcycle during a motor show at the municipal auditorium in Barangay Poblacion here on Saturday night, Nov. 19.

Police identified the fatality as Mark Anthony Moreno and the injured as Mark Anthony Cunanan, 20, a Senior High School student; Ericka Grace Carino, 16, a high school student, and Kim Justin Llena, 20, a college student and owner of the motorcycle.

Initial investigation showed that Llena started and accelerated his motorcycle, a Yamaha Aerox that served as his entry to the event, when its engine crankcase exploded.

Debris flew to the crowd and hit the victims who were watching behind.

The victims sustained injuries and were brought to the Mapandan Community Hospital where Moreno died while undergoing treatment.

Police halted the event after the incident and Col. Jeff Fanged, officer-in-charge, Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPO), has ordered an investigation.

Llena’s motorcycle was impounded at the Mapandan Police Station.
