Artworks mirroring the beauty of the past, the magic of nature, and the joy that comes from collaborations

ONGOING: ‘Fondly Remembering Spain’
WHERE: Instituto Cervantes, 385 Real St, Intramuros, Manila, 1000 Metro Manila
Instituto Cervantes presents “Fondly Remembering Spain” an exhibition of Phyllis Zaballero’s Spanish paintings. This collection of paintings, including those from private collections and those from the artist, was inspired by Zaballero’s years spent in Barcelona and memories of her trips around the Iberian Peninsula from 1957 to 1960 which had a strong impact on her as an artist. Her first artworks developed in an extraordinary period of Philippine painting, from the 50s to the 80s. Zaballero was one of the Thirteen Artists Awardees in 1978.
“Fondly Remembering Spain” is organized by Instituto Cervantes in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain. The exhibit runs until Jan. 22, 2023.

ONGOING: ‘Sibol’
WHERE: Gateway Gallery on Level 5 of Gateway Mall in Araneta City
Titled “Sibol”, Glenda Carlota’s art exhibit is an assembly of works in various media created in different states of creative euphoria that celebrates Mother Nature as the harbinger of new life, and as a vehicle for her inspiration and budding artistic explorations and the development of her “creative genetic code” after her first solo exhibit “Kulay at Guhit” in 2021.
Working primarily with acrylic, Glenda Carlota’s artworks capture the delicate beauty of nature through the strokes of her brushes, the burst of her hair dryer, or the happy accidents that happen in between.
“Sibol” is on view until Nov. 26.

ONGOING: ‘Synergy’
WHERE: Art Lounge Manila – Molito Lifestyle Center, Ayala Alabang
“Synergy” is a two-man show between great friends, Ram Mallari and Omi Reyes. Both artists are fascinated by Steampunk Art and their works for this exhibition showcase their talents for said genre. While Mallari wields his magic on metal, Reyes is a wizard at crafting wood. Together, these artists are the perfect definition of what Synergy is like.
Some of the featured works for Synergy include characters inspired by Greek literature, the Japanese Edo period, Marvel and DC Comics, as well as a galaxy far, far away. According to Ram Mallari, the concept behind their two-man show is “elevating more of how we imagine the world would be driven, structured and magnified by the Industrial Revolution. How metal and wood compensate from the works of Omi Reyes, and to what I can express with these special series.” Omi Reyes also shares, “In most of the artworks, I become the accompaniment of an unfinished song, other times, I become an aggregation or even an augmentation of the existing craft that is Ram’s.”
The exhibition runs until Nov. 30.
