600 runners join QCPD’s community run for a cause

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) on Sunday, Nov. 20, held a Police Community Run for a Cause to help the families of police officers who died or were injured while performing their duty.

QCPD Director Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III led the activity where around 600 cops from the different districts of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), their families, and other stakeholders participated.

“As part of the mission of QCPD, this run will benefit the families and dependents of Warriors, Operators, Liberators Foundation (WOLF) Charity Movement through scholarship grants,” Brig. Gen. Torre III said.

According to the QCPD, the event began with a short program at QCPD Grandstand, Camp Karingal, Sikatuna Village in the city followed by the fun run which has three categories - 10 kilometers, five kilometers, and two kilometers (for kids).

The event is part of the QCPD’s celebration of its 83rd Founding Anniversary on Nov. 25, with the theme “QCPD Tagapaglunsad ng Serbisyong may Malasakit, Patnubay ng Kaayusan at Kapayapaan, Kaagapay tungo sa Kaunlaran, Katuwang ang Simbahan at Pamayanan ng Lungsod Quezon.”

The runners joined by paying registration fees of P1,100, P800, and P500. The participants were each given a singlet (shirt they used for running), a medal race bib with timing chip, and loot bags.

The participants of the 10-kilometer and five-kilometer categories took different routes starting from the QCPD camp. They reached CP Garcia Street before going back to the camp.

Meanwhile, the runners of the two-kilometer category took Maginhawa Street coming from the QCPD camp to reach Malingap Street. They used the same route going back to the police headquarters to finish the race.

“Aside from raising money for a worthy cause, this activity is not only beneficial to our life’s aspects but it also enhances our social interaction with the community”, the police chief said.
