Nigerian, woman wanted for estafa nabbed by QC police in Cavite

A Nigerian man and a woman wanted for estafa were arrested by Quezon City Police District (QCPD) operatives in Cavite on Tuesday, Nov. 1.

Police nabbed Nigerian Ikenna Onuoha, 37, and Jacel Ann Paderan, 28, in their residence in Bacoor Cavite at about 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday by virtue of a warrant of arrest for estafa issued on Oct. 24, 2022 by Presiding Judge Maria Gilda T. Loja-Pangilinan of Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 230, Quezon City.

The suspects were arrested by joint operatives of the Quezon City-District Anti-Cybercrime Team, Quezon City-Cyber Patrol Unit (QC-DACT/QC-CPU), and the District Special Operation Unit (DSOU).

According to the QCPD, the case stemmed from the complaint of Onuoha’s victim whom he met in an online dating application. Their relationship started in April 2020 after Onuoha introduced himself to the victim as “Demir Balik.”

Onuoha later asked for financial assistance from the victim, saying he is coming to the Philippines but his online banking account had a problem.

Police said Ohuoha told the victim to send money to a certain “Mohammed” who was later identified as the suspect Paderan. The victim sent P254,000 to Paderan’s bank account.

Onuoha repeatedly asked for money from the victim who even sold a property to send cash to the suspects.

Onuoha also allegedly told the victim that he would be in the country on July 15, 2020 and would land at the Cebu International Airport.

One “Stephanie Evangelista” later called up the victim and asked for P650,000 for a certificate to release $US1 million to the suspect. This time, the victim became suspicious and reported the matter to police.

The QCPD said the suspects were able to take around P2,282,000 from the victim.

The court that issued the arrest order will be notified of the suspects’ arrest, the police said.

Use your mind, not the heart),” QCPD director Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III said.
