BTS Jin's 'The Astronaut' debuts on Billboard Hot Trending Songs, tops weekly chart in Korea
K-pop idol group BTS member Jin debuted on Billboard’s Hot Trending Songs Chart, powered by Twitter, and grabbed the No. 1 spot on the weekly album chart in Korea with his first solo release.
Billboard released the rankings for the Nov. 5-dated and relaunched Hot Trending Songs chart.



Jin released “The Astronaut’ on Oct. 28 and according to Billboard, it debuted at No. 5 on the Hot Trending Songs chart.
The chart is based on “global music-related trends and conversations in real-time across Twitter, viewable over either the last 24 hours or past seven days. A weekly, 20-position version of the chart, covering activity from Friday through Thursday of each week, posts alongside Billboard’s other weekly charts on Billboard.com each Tuesday.”
“Below Rihanna’s double-up on Hot Trending Songs is a slew of new titles, led by Juice WRLD’s ‘In My Head’ at No. 3, with the Black Eyed Peas, Anitta and El Alfa‘s collaboration ‘Simply the Best’ at No. 4 and JIN’s ‘The Astronaut’ rounding out the top five. Each song was released Oct. 28; their first weeks of eligibility for Billboard’s multi-metric charts such as the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard Global 200 will be reflected on next week’s Nov. 12-dated surveys, covering the Oct. 28-Nov. 3 tracking week,” according to Billboard.
In addition, Jin occupied the top three slots on this week’s World Digital Song Sales chart. “Super Tuna” is No. 1 followed by “Abyss” and “Tonight.”
“He's just the third solo act in the chart's history to occupy the top 3 spots simultaneously, after #AgustD and #JHope,” Billboard Charts tweeted.
In South Korea, Jin’s “The Astronaut” debuted at No. 1 and topped the weekly album chart.
According to Korea’s Hanteo Chart, “The Astronaut” sold 700,954 copies on the first day of release to top the daily album chart.
It eventually ruled the Hanteo weekly album chart with 716,584 copies sold, or 824,072 in physical record index, which is now used by the chart to rank albums by incorporating the price of albums.
As of Nov. 1, “The Astronaut” has sold 737,872 copies in South Korea.
Upon its release, “The Astronaut” iTunes’ Top Songs chart in 97 countries and regions. The music video for the song has garnered 31.23 million views on YouTube as of this writing since its release on Oct. 28.
Jin performed “The Astronaut” with Coldplay at the latter’s concert in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Oct. 28.
