Yale team including Pinoy student bags honorable mention at programming world finals
A team of undergraduate students from Yale University in the US earned an honorable mention at the 45th International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) World Finals held recently in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
The ICPC “it is the oldest, largest, and most prestigious programming contest in the world,” according to the contest website.



The Yale University team was composed of Andrew Yuan, Deyuan Li and Dion Stephan Ong, a Filipino student, who competed and earned an honorable mention at the ICPC World Finals.
Ong, 19, is taking up BS Computer Science at Yale University and is expected to graduate by May 2024.
In the Philippines, he graduated valedictorian from the Ateneo de Manila Senior High School in 2020 and entered Yale University in August of the same year.
Teams from 140 universities from 45 countries competed this year, according to a report by the Yale University Department of Computer Science.
Before the ICPC World Finals, the Yale University team placed in the top 10 at the North American Championship that qualified them to the next round.
The coach of the Yale team was Prof. Ruzica Piskac.
