Mayor cites Kho Shipping for launching Maasin City to Cebu City trip

TACLOBAN CITY â€“ Maasin City, Southern Leyte Mayor Nacional Mercado on Friday, Nov. 18, cited Kho Shipping Lines Inc. for launching trips from Maasin City to Cebu City.

Mercado said the roll-on, roll-off (RORO) vessel MV Masbate City is a more comfortable option because it is designed to accommodate 650 passengers, 22 10-wheel trucks, and four SUVs.

"I'm glad that they took interest in plying the route from Surigao City to Maasin then Cebu three times a week on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday," he said.

Mercado hopes this will boost economic and tourism activities in Maasin and municipalities in the province.

"If you want to take a land trip to see the island of Mindanao, you can ride here from Maasin without the need to go to other far places to travel," he added.

The fare, Nacional said, is P420 for economy, P620 for tourists, and travel time to Cebu City from Maasin is around five to six hours.

He added that the vessel has VIP rooms with toilets and other amenities such as a cafeteria and live bands.
