Adamson escapes UST, claims SSL bronze

Adamson survived University of Santo Tomas in five thrilling sets, 25-27, 25-20, 16-25, 25-22, 15-11, to capture the bronze medal in the Shakey’s Super League Pre-season Collegiate Conference Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Trisha Tubu showed the way for the Lady Falcons with 18 points off 15 attacks, two aces and one block to end their SSL campaign with a podium finish.

After a tight opening set, Adamson got the work done in the closing stages of the final frame where it mattered the most.

Tied at 7-all after Xyza Gula’s attack error, Louie Romero soared high for a down-the-line kill to put the Falcons ahead by one.

However, the UST side wouldn’t go down without a fight after Pierre Abellana’s back-to-back hits that saw the final set in its fourth deadlock at 11-all.

In the ensuing play, Cassandra Carballo committed a costly error for the Tigresses after crossing the center line which shifted the momentum to the Falcons –– allowing them to score the last four points needed to seal the win.
