Rains from ITCZ, LPA to persist in parts of Visayas, Mindanao — PAGASA

The combined effect of the low pressure area (LPA) and intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) may bring rains over parts of Visayas and Mindanao in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Friday, Nov. 18.
In its 10 a.m. advisory issued on Friday, PAGASA said the LPA, which is embedded within the ITCZ, has re-entered the Philippine area of responsibility and is approximately 320 kilometers east-southeast of General Santos City.
It added that the LPA remains less likely to develop into a tropical depression in 24 hours.
However, the combined effect of the LPA and ITCZ may bring moderate to heavy rains over Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and Davao Region.
Light to heavy rains may also affect Palawan, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, and the rest of Mindanao.
“Under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides are likely, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps and in areas with significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA warned.
PAGASA said the rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will have partly cloudy to cloudy weather with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in the next 24 hours.
However, the public is advised to be vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusts of wind, and sometimes hail.
