NPA tagged in murder of former village chair in Negros arrested


BACOLOD CITY --The police and military arrested on Thursday, Nov. 17, a member of the Yunit Militia of the New People’s Army (NPA) tagged in the killing of a former barangay chairman in Isabela, Negros Occidental in 2018.

An arrest warrant for murder with no bail recommended was served against 53-year-old Winnie Carillo in Sitio Maalot-alot, Barangay San Agustin for the death of former Barangay San Agustin Chairman Agapito Euroba on Aug. 10, 2018.

The kiling of Euroba was claimed by the NPA in a statement a day after the incident.

The arrest warrant was issued by Presiding Judge Mila Yap-Camiso of the Regional Trial Court Branch 74 in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental on Nov. 10, 2022.

Carillo is the sixth most wanted person in the town, according to the police.

Capt. Joseph Partidas, Isabela police chief, said that three more communist rebels, including the suspect’s two siblings, were also linked to the killing and are still at large.

Partidas said that Carillo was a former commander of the Yunit Militia before he downgraded as active member of the group upon verification with the Philippine Army.
