New LTO Chief intensifies drive vs overloading

Newly appointed Land Transportation Office (LTO) Chief Jose Arturo "Jay Art" Tugade on Friday, Nov. 18, ordered the agency to intensify its campaign against overloaded motor vehicles in the country.

"Overloaded trucks present direct danger against other vehicles plying our roads," he pointed out.

For this reason, "Our operations against overloaded vehicles will continue without letup so violators will learn to respect our laws on road safety,” stressed LTO Chief Tugade.

Immediately, a combined team of law enforcers from the LTO Central Office and LTO Region 3 have gone to the Tabang Weighbridge Station in Tabang, Guiguinto, Bulacan to conduct an anti-overloading operation.

The group was composed of officials and personnel from both LTO and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

They flagged down a total of 22 motor vehicles as of 12:04 p.m.

Upon weighing, seven vehicles passed while a total of 15 trucks were apprehended in violation of Republic Act 8794 or the Anti-Overloading Act of 2000.

Meanwhile, three vehicles were caught in violation of the provisions of Republic Act 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code and were promptly issued tickets.

No untoward incidents were reported during the LTO operation.
