More than 30 teams from senior high schools across the region participated in an Information Technology (IT) innovation program of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS Philippines) and the Department of Education (DepEd)-6.

Dubbed as ‘’TCS goIT’’ program, it aims to make computer science more relatable to students and encourage them to pursue IT courses in college or Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) courses.

“We want to produce learners that are ready to face the digital future with acquired skills important in the IT industry,” said Shiju Varghese, TCS Philippines country manager.

Team Tabang of the Dumolog National High School in Roxas City, Capiz province emerged as the grand winner of the 2022 goIT Digital Innovation Fair held here recently. With the perennial flooding being experienced in Capiz, an app can send out an automated call on mobile phones for help.

The other teams also designed apps that aim to solve problems or challenges in their communities. It includes digital assistance for farmers and fishermen, distance learning assistance, disaster risk reduction, and waste disposal.

“I am in awe of the talents and skills of our young innovators from Western Visayas. We are glad to see how quickly our students are learning to adapt to technology and be digital-first,” said DepEd-6 Director Ramir Uytico.
