Several parts of the country may continue to experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the prevalence of the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and shear line, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 17.

PAGASA said the ITCZ—a region where winds coming from the northeast and southeast hemispheres converge that triggers thunderstorms and rain showers—may affect Palawan, Quezon, Bicol Region, Visayas, and Mindanao.

On the other hand, the shear line—an area where warm and cold air meets—may prevail over Isabela and mainland Cagayan province.

PAGASA warned those in areas affected by the ITCZ and shear line to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to heavy rains.

Meanwhile, the low pressure area monitored by PAGASA is now outside the Philippine area of responsibility and no longer has a direct impact on the country.

PAGASA said the rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will have partly cloudy to cloudy weather with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in the next 24 hours.

However, the public is advised to be vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusts of wind, and sometimes hail.
