June Mar Fajardo raring to help for slumping Beermen

On a normal game day, June Mar Fajardo could have taken over in the crucial moments as his teammates would only dump the ball on him at the post and let him create for the rest of the squad.

It wasn’t the case, Sunday night, when San Miguel suffered a heartbreaking 85-80 loss at the hands of Magnolia.

The Beermen were denied of such luxury as Fajardo could only afford to watch his team fade in the waning minutes of the crucial defeat that shoved them outside the playoff picture at the ninth spot of the standing with a 3-5 record.

The 6-foot-10 big man felt helpless at the sideline as, despite suiting up with his SMB uniform, wasn’t fielded by head coach Leo Austria in the loss, making him more eager to return and help his team in such moments of the game.

“Basta ako pagbalik ko ibibigay ko lahat para makatulong ako sa team kasi siyempre nasa bottom of the standings ata kami ngayon so sana makatulong ako pagbalik ko,” said Fajardo after the game.

He, however, admitted that it may still take some time for him to get back on the court after recovering from the throat injury that has sidelined him for more than a month now. Fajardo said he’s already incorporating himself to the Beermen practice but he’s still getting used to himself again after the surgery.

“Okay naman getting better naman sana tuluy tuloy na. Nakakapraktis na. Last week, naka-practice na ako, nakasama na rin ako sa five-on-five, isang beses palang naman so saglit lang,” shared Fajardo.

“Dami ko nang metal sa katawan. Ngayon syempre medyo nakakapanibago pero syempre masasanay din, dito sa tibia ko dati sobrang awkward tapos ngayon, makakasanayan ko na lang kasi magiging part na rin ng body ko ito eh,” he added.

Fajardo is hopeful to return to the Beermen in one of their next two games – a pair of crucial encounters vital to their playoff hopes.

“Siguro next game or the next game i-try ko. Hihingi lang kami ng clearance sa doktor kung papayagan na,” he shared.
