ITCZ, LPA's trough bring scattered rains over parts of PH

The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and the trough or extension of a low pressure area (LPA) will bring cloudy weather with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over parts of the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Thursday, Nov. 17.

The LPA, embedded within the ITCZ, was estimated 200 kilometers south-southeast of General Santos City at 3 a.m. on Thursday.

PAGASA said Palawan, Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, and Mindanao will have cloudy weather with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the ITCZ and trough of LPA.

Cloudy weather with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may also prevail over Quezon, Aurora, Isabela, and mainland Cagayan due to the shear line—an area where cold and warm air meets.

PAGASA warned those in areas affected by the LPA’s trough, ITCZ, and shear line to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to heavy rains.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will have partly cloudy to cloudy weather with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

The public is also advised to be vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusts of wind, and sometimes hail.
