Bulacan gov't cites barangay officials with exemplary performance, innovations
Villages and barangay officials with exemplary performance and innovations were recognized during the awarding ceremony of the Gawad Galing Barangay (GGB) 2022 held on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the Hiyas ng Bulacan Pavillion Convention Center in the City of Malolos, Bulacan.
Provincial Public Affairs Office chief Katrina Anne B. Balingit said the GGB is a project under the Bulacan Awards Program for Barangay Innovation and Excellence (BAPBIE) which was launched by the Provincial Government of Bulacan in accordance with Provincial Ordinance 03-T'06 in recognition of excellent contributions of barangays to the province's development.
She said the yearly awards program chooses outstanding barangay initiatives from various categories which include Outstanding Barangay Projects (OBP), Outstanding 'Lingkod Barangay (OLB), and Outstanding Volunteer Workers (OVW).
Awardees in the OLB are the barangay captains, barangay councilors, barangay secretaries, and village treasurers. In the OVW, cited were village watchers, mother leaders, Lingkod Lingap sa Nayon, barangay health workers, barangay training and employment coordinators, and volunteer groups that could be non-government organizations, people's organizations, and civic organizations.
Bulacan Governor Daniel R. Fernando and Vice Governor Alexis C. Castro encouraged the 569 barangays in the province, including those who have previously won in GGB, to participate.
Senator Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go reminded the Bulakenyos to always do good by helping the needy.
He lauded the village officials for being the government's front liners saying that as the most basic unit of governance in the country, it also serves as the planning and implementing unit of government policies, plans, programs, projects, and activities in the communities.
Go said that through the barangays, government programs and the services of the government reach the people easily. Through the barangays, he said that their policies, plans, and projects aimed at improving the country materialize.
"Most importantly, it is in our barangays that we hone dutiful citizens who will become the future builders of our nation," Go said.
Go congratulated the five winners of the Natatanging Gawaing Pambarangay who received plaques of recognition and financial incentive amounting to P200,000 each.
He likewise congratulated the Natatanging Punong Barangay who received P50,000 and P20,000 for the Natatanging Kagawad ng barangay, Natatanging Kalihim at Ingat Yaman ng barangay, and Natatanging Volunteer Workers and Groups.
